This activity is quick and simple, but it really gives kids a strong visual aid for looking at the features of their name. The only prep needed is to copy one sheet for each child on to construction paper or card stock and have plenty of colored one inch squares cut. You can download the free printable form here: My Name Is….
I usually demonstrate the process for the kids with my name. I actually work from the bottom up on this page. I write my first name on the bottom line. Then I count the letters in my name and fill the number in the blank in the sentence. Next I count the same number of squares and glue them on the sheet. Finally I write the letters of my name in to the colored boxes.
The main purpose here is to help kids distinguish between letters and words. Their name is one word, but it is composed of more than one letter. It also provides one more opportunity to have them practice writing their names!
This is a great idea with names!! Love it. 🙂
Thanks! I am so glad you like it. 🙂
I teach children that 3, 4, and 5 with OT, PT, and ST therapies. Some are kindergarten bound and this is a great activity for them but the others are catching on. Thank you.
So glad it is helpful for your students!
